
Speeding Up Your Bake with 500W IR Emitters
Most steam ovens rely on convection, but let’s be honest: hot air is slow. If you’re trying to push more product through your line every minute, you can’t just wait for the air to do the work. You need to hit the dough with direct energy. That’s where our 500W infrared (IR) emitters come in. Instead of swirling air, these lamps shoot radiant heat straight into the surface of the dough. It’s faster. Much faster. The trick is in the heat density. We use a 500W rating because it gives you a punch of concentrated heat without blowing your electrical budget. If you set them up in a staggered pattern, you get a nice, even heat zone. No more annoying cold spots that force you to slow down the conveyor belt just to make sure everything is cooked. You get a crisp crust set in a fraction of the time. What are they actually made of? We use high-purity quartz glass. Why? Because steam environments are brutal, and cheap glass just cracks under that kind of thermal shock. We also balanced the 500W output so the filaments don’t just burn out after a few cycles of heavy use. Plus, they play nice with the industrial controllers you probably already have. But here is the catch: this much power can be a bit aggressive. Since IR energy hits so hard, you can actually scorch the tops of your products if your belt is moving too slowly. You’ll want to make sure your PID controllers are dialed in to adjust the power based on how fast the belt is actually moving. The bottom line for your throughput When you swap out or add IR emitters to your convection setup, you’re cutting down the “dwell time”—the time it takes for the center of the product to actually get hot. This means you can finally crank up the belt speed. Even if you only shave 10% off your bake cycle, the number of units coming off the line every hour jumps up significantly.
