Getting Your SBO Infrared Lamps Right
When you’re swapping out heater lamps in a Sidel SBO or any PET blowing machine, you’re really chasing two things: heat density and the right wavelength. We built our infrared lamps to be simple, drop-in replacements. They work with about 95% of the blow molding gear out there. No fuss.
The nitty-gritty of power and voltage
Here’s the thing about SBO systems: they rely on a very specific balance of voltage and wattage. If you get it wrong, you either don’t hit that glass transition temperature or you end up scorching the plastic. We make sure our tubes match those electrical footprints exactly. By using a high-voltage, high-wattage setup, we can keep the tube diameter small without losing any thermal punch. Pushing more wattage into a shorter tube gives you a tighter heat spot. But a word of caution: that extra heat density puts a lot of stress on your reflectors.**Keep them clean.**If they’re dirty, you’re basically throwing 20% of your energy down the drain.
Quartz and connectors (The stuff that lasts)
Nobody wants a lamp that bows or warps when things get hot. That’s why we use heavy-wall quartz glass. It handles the extreme thermal cycling without flinching. We also fill them with halogen gas, which keeps the filament from burning out too early. As for the fit? We stick to the industry standards—R7s and Sk15 connectors. You won’t have to mess around with rewiring your sockets or hacking away at the lamp holders. You just pull the old one out and pop the new one in. Simple.
Real-world installation
These are designed for fast swaps because we know every minute of downtime is a headache. Since we used a universal spec, they play nice with different brands. Just keep in mind that if you jump to a higher-output lamp, your heating profile will shift. You’ll probably need to tweak your oven timers and blower speeds so you don’t over-stretch the PET. Also, keep an eye on your cooling. If your system is a bit undersized, running these lamps at full tilt will heat up the oven housing. Just something to watch out for.
